Graphic Black and White

Monochrome is not to be underestimated. It can often be one of the simplest and most stylish looks to pull off during autumn/winter.

img_7464I bought this Zara checked pinafore with two silver parallel zips during a winter shopping spree two years ago. To keep warm and to make sure the look still reflected a sharp silhouette I teamed the look with a crisp black polo neck form H&M.

This is often a look I pull on because it is simple and comfortable and sometimes you really need that during the cold days when you drag yourself to the office. Clean lines like this pinafore and polo neck often need a statement bag and shoes to add more of a punch to the style. I personally feel that heeled boots help me to look more streamlined and the statement metal bag from Zara makes the look more feminine.

I would also team this outfit with a simple black or grey cocoon coat. Or I would swap the over the knee boots for heeled ankle boots and a white fur coat to add a pinch of Cruella Deville fierceness.

When you wear a monochrome outfit it makes it much easier to wear whatever lipstick and still look fabulous. I chose to go for a MAC matte nude lipstick as I did not want to take attention away from the boots and bag.

I like to play with silhouettes and loose structures during autumn/winter. I would also wear a loose fitting black top underneath this pinafore, which would work well because the pinafore is a straight style so the look wouldn’t add additional pounds. Or I would try a pop of colour with it such as yellow or red and I would try using some velvet to silk texture to it to update the pinafore.

This time of year is all about layering, so if you buy a pinafore or dress that is well structured it leaves you enough room to play with loose tops or cardigans to wear with it. Girls, it’s time to challenge yourself with different outlines and to venture with new fashions you might not have otherwise considered to inject some power lines to this years wardrobe.

Are you enjoying the monochrome movement?
