I bought this wrap skirt from New Look back in April after seeing it on ASOS for just £19.99 after checking to see if it was back in stock for about three months. You might think ‘ well you should have just given up’, but black skirts are a must for my workwear wardrobe and I am aways finding them to be too short for work or too ‘frumpy’ looking. But I loved the wrap from detail and that D-ring note to it and for £19.99, who really is complaining?
A black skirt for either work or casual wear is an important capsule piece in my eyes and finding ones with small details like a zip, intricate pocket details or a wrap front touch just keeps this minima piece looking current.
I always find that a black skirt helps me to weave my off duty wardrobe tops into my work looks and that’s a good thing as i’m getting enough wear out of my clothes. Some might see this 90s style wrap skirt as quite a bookish look however, I decided to draw even more on the bookish style by teaming it with my black loafers from Primark. But I decided to wear a silky dotted top which I bought from Topshop four years ago, which is split into two different types of dotted colours to give the look some character and to play with textures.
But I needed to complete the look with my contemporary monochrome metal handle bag from ASOS and my new £3 cat eye tortoiseshell sunglasses from Primark. This is a simple look to pull off for work and has such intricate details from the wrap front of the skirt right through to the pattern of the top.
This is a look that can be worn throughout summer and be updated for autumn/ winter with the help from some tights, black longline cardigan and a slim fit coat. Workwear doesn’t have to be boring!
