NYC Fashion Diaries

Before jetting off to NYC, I was feeling confident that I would be able to get some new pieces that will help me to create that effortless city style.

In the end I decided on nine outfits which were all slightly different, but you’ll soon realise that my love for the classic blouse and jeans look made a return.

The weather all in all was perfect, it was very warm on the Friday when we arrived and when you’ve just got off a 7 hour flight the last thing I needed was to be wearing something tight and uncomfortable. I decided to slip into my red playsuit from Zara with a d-ring belt and some classic sandals, this is definitely a summer item I need to remember to wear again and again within the next few months.

I finally managed to get this white button through blouse from New Look a few weeks before my holiday, as I wanted to wear this with straight leg jeans and lots of gold detailing to make the look pop! Sometimes you really do need something simple to wear and accessories like my Gucci bag can do all the talking…

My sister picked me up this green striped shirt from H&M literally a day before I was flying and I knew I wanted to wear them with my longline shorts for the perfect ‘summer in the city’ style. These shorts need mentioning! I have wanted longline white shorts for so long – the longer length and boyfriend fit of these shorts just makes outfits look more grown up and stylish.  I really need a crop top with flowing sleeves to wear with these shorts for my next adventure.

It rained quite a lot on the Sunday and the weather was quite cool, so I opted for my classic dogtooth blazer and chainmail bag and unfortunately I had to wear my Adidas trainers with it, but it sort of works, at the end of the day ain’t nobody got time to have wet feet!

I love the pattern and loose fit of this love heart shirt from Nastygal. I decided to again wear my straight leg jeans as I wanted to have more of a 80s feel with the style yet draw on the red shirt by wearing my little red suede cross body bag. This pattern is simple enough yet makes a statement and won’t ever go out of style.

I bought this tulip dress from ASOS Design for only £25 – I mean talk about bargain! I’m quite fussy when it comes to dresses, and I tend to be drawn to skirts more, maybe that’s because it allows me to have a say on what top I want to wear with it. I’m not a huge fan of the cold shoulder trend but I just loved the prettiness of the dress and how it’s quite fitted at the top and flares out and is still a minidress. The sleeves just add a bit of drama and volume to a classic dress style – perfect for the capital of fashion.

I didn’t make it to Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment – but I won’t dwell on that. However, I bought this headband at the local Zara store in New York and instantly knew I had to channel my inner Carrie B by wearing some blue wide culottes, silver mules, a simple button through top ( honestly can’t get enough of this button through trend) and this headband. This was definitely my favourite NYC look because it made a statement with the different textures and fits.

I bought this yellow striped PJ blouse from Topshop a while ago and at first I was quite unsure about whether I liked it or not at first but that quickly changed after I tucked it into my jeans and added a layered gold necklace. Yellow is such a strong colour and can instantly make an outfit look more on trend.

I bought these checked culottes from Primark for £13 and they were perfect for my last day outfit, I decided to add a girlie twist by teaming them with some simple hoops and a dainty necklace which compliments the lace detail of my Zara camisole.

When you go on a city break it gives you an opportunity to really mix your style up by wearing playsuits, jeans and shorts.
