Shopping for a holiday or city break can put you at two ends of the scales, you might be happy to accept the challenge (like me) or it can fill you with dread.
There’s no need to stress about shopping for a city break. I think sometimes we just need to do a bit of digging around in our wardrobes. Which is something which I’ve been doing and this led me to finding these paperbag waist shorts from Topshop, my striped culottes from Zara and my white skirt from New Look.
I love shopping all the time but I’ve challenged myself to not buy anything this July… yes we will see how this goes, but I’m optimistic that I can go shopping in my wardrobe for my upcoming trip.
I think the key to updating old items just has to be this summer’s button through trend. I mean seriously who thought buttons could make an outfit look fresh and cool? I didn’t see that trend coming. A simple button through camisole top or dress is the perfect off-duty vibe you need when on a city break, just add a basket bag and sunglasses just for extra points. I decided on black details for this look just to make the spearmint coloured shorts pop and to look more on trend.
I love culottes and they save me nearly every day when I need to wear them to work in the summer! I simply updated mine with a white button through camisole which just adds a little femininity to this simple style.
You really can’t beat a white skirt for a holiday, it jut instantly makes every top look more high fashion than it actually is, take this New Look patterned top for an example. This is a simple look which I’ve put together and is perfect for those days or nights on holiday where you just want to make minimal effort.
I think a lot of the time when you need to shop in your wardrobe for a holiday, all you need to do is play with colour palettes and look at how intricate details such as a button can really update your clothes.
If this requires you to spend more money, then consider a statement bag, earrings, lipstick or shoes. This will probably save you some extra pennies along the way too!
What are your holiday staples for this year?
